Brisbane Residents Face Power Outages After Severe Storms

Intense weather leaves thousands without electricity as region braces for more extreme conditions

Residents across Brisbane and southeast Queensland are waking up to widespread power outages following a night of severe storms that battered the region.

The Bureau of Meteorology reported that the storms, which began late yesterday afternoon, unleashed destructive winds and golf ball-sized hailstones in areas including Ipswich, Caboolture, and Samford, north of Brisbane.

At the peak of the storm around 9:45 p.m., approximately 4,800 homes were without power.

As of this morning, about 100 customers in southeast Queensland remain affected by the outages.

Energex crews are working diligently to restore electricity to the impacted areas.

While the immediate threat from the storm has subsided, residents are being warned to prepare for a significant heatwave in the coming days.

Temperatures in Brisbane are forecast to soar into the low to mid-30s over the next few days, with a peak of 36 degrees Celsius expected by Thursday.

A spring heatwave warning is also in place for parts of central and northwest Queensland, including Mt Isa, Birdsville, and Thargomindah.

Authorities are urging residents to stay informed and take necessary precautions during this period of extreme weather.

For the latest updates on weather warnings and power restoration efforts, residents are encouraged to monitor local news outlets and official channels.
